A year from now September 2024, all vessels subject to the BWM Convention (all ships over 400 GT minus some exceptions) must meet the performance standards contained in regulation D-2, meaning that ships without a ballast water treatment system must install an approved system before the official deadline.

Ship recycling may double in next 10 years. BIMCO has said a ship recycling boom could be coming this decade with as many as 15,000 ships heading for scrap.
